Creating a character for your writing

Cafes are a great starting point for finding characters. Always keep a small notebook in your pockets and something to write with.

Another place to find characters are magazines and newspapers.  So over a coffee and reading your paper or magazine look for an interesting face. Try not to choose a famous person.  Secondly, give them a range of characteristics:

    Their favourite food
    Their status
    Their employment status
    The way they dress
    Their family members
    Their relationships
    Their bad habits
The thing they like to do more than anything else
how tall are they what do they look like

Add to this list

Make three of four character profiles and put them into a group.  They are having coffee with you.  Create a conversation about their next holiday destination.

Soon the characters will become alive in your mind.
